Member Code of Conduct

Required for every Society participant

You belong here. So does everyone else.

The Society of Wit & Wonder is a place to make strange things, ask enormous questions, find your people, fail spectacularly, try again, and be enthusiastically yourself.

That only works when everyone gets to feel safe doing it.

You don't have to like everyone here.

You don't have to agree with everyone here.

You don't have to understand everything about everyone here.

You do have to treat them like they belong here too.

As a Society member, I will:

  • Treat other people with basic dignity and respect.
  • Respect someone's "no," "stop," and personal space.
  • Use tools, equipment, technology, and Society spaces safely.
  • Follow reasonable instructions from adults responsible for safety.
  • Respect other people's creations and belongings.
  • Speak up or get an adult when someone may be unsafe.
  • Take responsibility when I make a mistake.
  • Help make the Society a place where curiosity and creativity can thrive.

At the Society, we do not:

  • Bully or cyberbully.
  • Use slurs or hate language.
  • Harass or deliberately intimidate someone.
  • Threaten violence.
  • Haze or humiliate people.
  • Make unwanted sexual comments, advances, or contact.
  • Deliberately target or exclude someone as a way of hurting them.
  • Destroy or deliberately misuse another person's work or property.
  • Use tools or equipment in deliberately unsafe ways.
  • Retaliate against someone for reporting a concern.
  • Punish someone socially for asking an adult for help.

Your rights here

At the Society, you have the right to:

  • Say no to unwanted physical contact.
  • Ask for another adult.
  • Leave an interaction that makes you uncomfortable and seek help.
  • Tell us when something feels unsafe or wrong.
  • Report something an adult or another young person has done.
  • Be taken seriously when you raise a safety concern.
  • Report a concern without retaliation.
  • Know which adults are responsible for helping keep you safe.
  • Be treated as though you belong here.

When something goes wrong

Not every mistake means someone is a bad person.

Whenever it is safe and appropriate, Society adults will try to help members understand what happened, repair harm, learn, and move forward.

Serious behavior or repeated violations may result in safety restrictions, parent/guardian involvement, suspension from an activity, or removal from Society programming.

Behavior involving suspected abuse, threats, serious violence, sexual misconduct, or another situation requiring outside reporting will be handled according to Society safety policy and applicable law.
